Was looking at one for sale, need some help deciding if I want to purchase or not, and since I dont have alot of knowledge with these, Im hoping anyone can provide me with some info on helping me with this. Thanks in advance.
What I am looking at is a 1993 Grand Cherokee Loredo with following specs: Straight 6 (4.0L) Auto trans 222,000 miles, 3/4 hwy miles uses no oil Things done to it: New Radiator $300.00 Rebuilt trans case $500 New Cat $200.00 Tuneup $100.00 Breaks good Fuel pump replaced 3 years ago Guy is asking $1,995 So what do you think? High miles does not scare me much, im rolling in a 1993 Jimmy right now that has almost 170,000, just looking for something else, Love the look of Jeeps especially this year of the GC. |

Re: ? about 1993 GC Loredo
The 4.0L can get a lot of miles before anything major needs to be done, such as rebuilding or replacing the engine. I have a '94 JGC Limited with 161,000 when I bought it for $1,900 and I believe it is loaded with everything. I only needed to replace timing cover gasket casue it was leaking antifreeze and put linkage back on that goes to the transfer case. Low range would not work and the previous owner got mad when I climbed under the vehicle there in his garage and fixed it in about 30 seconds, he thought the transmission was bad or the transfer case, I could tell it was off cause how easy it was to pull back on.
Now I think the price is a bit high due to the miles, I would see if they would drop the price down a little. Maybe to $1,500 but $1,200 would be better. Truthfully you are the one buying it, take it to a mechanic you trust before committing to the actual buy. Let the seller know what you plan on doing, if the seller ask you not to then be leery. |

Re: ? about 1993 GC Loredo
Crawl under and get the tags off the tranny and the Transfer case. Or get a build sheet from Jeep using the VIN.
First half of 93 the AW4 tranny was used. It's better than the 42re. I have an AW4 and my tag is on the passenger side of the tranny. TCase tag is on the back of it drivers side. If it's a 42re put a cooler on it and you will be ok. Drive it for 15 min or so and then do some tight figure 8's in a parking lot and see if the tires chirp. If the Tcase tag is NP249 you'll be looking at a viscous coupler someday. If the tires are chirping, sooner than later. If the tcase tag is NV249 or anything else it's not a bad price. And X2 on the 93 look. The way it was intended!
