Uneven CD playback?

Been a while since I've been here, seems like alot has changed, but hopefully someone can still help me out.

I've got a crappy Wal-Mart CD player that I bought about a year ago. It is actually really good for what I need. It worked perfectly all last spring, summer, and fall. However, once the temperatures started plumetting my CDs no longer play back evenly. For example it will be at 1:25 then skip back to 1:10 and play that portion over again and then if the song lasts for 3 minutes it will cut to the next song because of the portion that got re-read. This happens to real CDs and burnt CDs.

So is this a head-unit problem (take it back for a new one) or something that I can clean to fix it?

Thanks

Re: Uneven CD playback?

definitely a player problem if it does the same thing with different cd's. Is the face removable ?

Re: Uneven CD playback?

Yes the face is removable.

I was hoping it would be just a cleaning issue since it only started happening in the winter and it should be getting alot warmer soon. Is it possible for the laser to get condensation on it and then freeze or become fogged over? That was my first guess.

Re: Uneven CD playback?

Sounds like you might have a loose lens, though it could be dirty too. Easiest would be to take it back if they will honor the warranty, but if not, try a lens cleaner and see if that works for you.
