Spark Plugs
Hi all,.
Been a while, I guess thats a good thing. I am having problems with my 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 cyl. I changed the spark plugs not to long ago and eveything seemed ok, my only problem is that it was the first time doing that, not mechanically enclined. I did a whole oil change and everything last week now my jeep is like sputtering, and kinda struggling to drive and shaking alot. someone said its the spark plugs but Im not sure. can someone advise please.. thanks all |

Re: Spark Plugs
Are you sure you connected the wires right? My husband did the same thing and he had two of the plug wires switched. Put them right and it ran great!
Oh, and did you be sure to get new wires when you got the new plugs?

Re: Spark Plugs
yeah I did them one at a time and put numbered tape on the wires just incase. my memory isnt like it was years back. I hope that I calibrated the spark plugs right though, that I put the gap as it should be. some of the spark plugs were too open and some were too closed.
thanks for your reply. |

Re: Spark Plugs
when i first did it, i didn't tighten the spark plugs tight enough and that caused my car to do the same thing and eventually shut off...also like kat75 mentioned, did you put the wires back in the distributor in correct order?

Re: Spark Plugs
Weird how many people have issues after changing spark plugs. I would double check your wiring to make sure it is right, then I would pull the plugs and visually check them and also double check the gap. Could be wrong plugs, to low of a heat causing plugs to not fire properly. Looking at plugs they will look like they have black soot on them if to low on heat.
Also check all your wiring connections, I have seen people change plugs and disconnect other wire connectors on accident. |

Re: Spark Plugs
I have also seen a plug porcelin crack when installing a new one. Check the porcelin on every plug and make sure there is no craked ones.

thank you so much for everything. I got this problem fixed. it ended up being the Rotor, Dist. cap and wires. car running like new. but as all you Jeep owners know once something is fixed something else breaks down. This morning I went to take off the Emergency brake and the button you press to take it off came of along with the spring and what do you think happen next.. I cant get the Emergency brake down and now cant drive the car. HELP!! can anyone tell me what to do next. Thanks again |

Re: Spark Plugs
I bet if you look in the handle where the button fell off you can identify what it is the button would have pushed on. Go find a screwdriver or something and push on that piece and I bet you'll be able to let it down.
