The automatic hub problem???
Hi all,
I have been looking at Rangers and also reading a lot on the net. Seems to be a major problem with Rangers and the auto hubs. My questions is: Is this a problem on all 4 wheel drive Rangers, or is it up to only a certain year? |

as far as i have seen it is pretty much a problem with any auto locking hub system. at least i know my kia suffers from it also.

Re: The automatic hub problem???
The auto hubs are a concern. My 97 4X4, the hubs clicked when I put it in 4 wheel drive, but they didn't lock. I put new ones on ($875.00), and now they make a whirring noise while in 2 wheel drive, and a clunk when I press the brakes. If I put it in 4 wheel the whirring goes away. I took it back to the shop and they can't figure out what it is. I'm not very happy with my Ranger.

Re: The automatic hub problem???
I have a 95 ranger & the auto lockers went bad-replaced them with Warn manual lock hubs $189.99. They work great not 1 problem!

Re: The automatic hub problem???
98,99,and ˝ of 2000 Ford had a better idea that didn’t work so well….the Vacuum activated lock outs. Especially in salty conditions they will loose vacuum for a few reasons, first being the outer O-Rings, second being the inner seal, third being the lines themselves. Go to www.therangerstation.com and they will give you a full run down on all symptoms and fixes
