I have a jeep cherokee laredo 1989 with 128,000 miles and a 4.0l. It will start and run for a few seconds and then bog down and die. If you push on the gas it will rev up but then bog down and die. I have tried replacing the regulator and put in a used fuel pump but i am running out of ideas please help before i go crazy!!

Re: jeep starts but wont stay running help!!
Hey, hey, now. It's Okay... There's nothing wrong that can't be helped! kristen2218, are you hawt? You sure do type good!
JK!!! Srry!!! love the font! lol1-Does it crank any longer than usual? (Before starting/firing up?) 2-Have there been any recent changes? (Tune-Ups, etc...) [Besides what you mentioned?] 3-If you keep your foot on the 'gas-pedal'/accelerator (even a little) will it stay running until you take your foot completely off of it? 4-Have you checked any of your fuses yet? 5-Is there a "Check Engine" Light??? Those are all very basic checks that can/should be made for a better understanding of what could be causing the "STALL" issue- If I've interpereted you correctly... ***If it's anything like #3, it could be the I.A.C.- (Idle Air Control) OR the (Idle Speed Stepper Motor) [Same Things!]*** !!!I've had this issue b4 on my own '89. Turned out to be a free part from the scrapyard!!! Here's a link:http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/...iagnostics.htm Scroll about 1/2 way down to the relevant article... Of course there's much more there that you should probably read anyway! ~Good Luck |
