Need Help!!

I just bought a used car yesterday at an Ohio dealership and drove it home today. I didn’t check carfax before buying it, stupid I know but the car looks and seems to run great. I got a report today and it says the car had a salvage title issued in 2004. My paperwork says nothing of a return policy, is there any way I can return the vehicle.

Re: Need Help!!

I’ve spoken to the dealer and he says that carfax is wrong, that they have a clean title and you can’t go from a salvage title to a clean title. Is this true?

Yes you can. The car just has to be inspected and pass.

Re: Need Help!!

I know they can get a new title but isn’t it supposed to be “branded” as rebuilt or something to indicate that it once was issued a salvage title?

Re: Need Help!!

I’ve spoken to the title office and they say that to their knowledge a vehicle that has ever been issued a salvage title must say “rebuilt” an that there is know way to change that. However, I read something posting in another forum were I guy clamed that dealerships can get the title legally altered. Does anyone know if this guy was just blowing smoke or is it really possible?

Re: Need Help!!

Where is the car originally from, there are 12 states in the country that wash titles, this means a an s title can be taken off and given a clean slate. I rarley ever want more goverenment regulataions but this is one area I wish they would get involved

Re: Need Help!!

I don't know about NY or Ohio, but in California it can't be done. My car is salvaged... end of story. We had it tested and all the body work done. Its not a "rebuild" title. I'd say a rebuild would be something you picked up and replaced everything in it... just a guess. Check the local laws, maybe you can get him there?
