84 Lebaron Carb problems

When I first start up the car in the morning it starts right up. But it spits all this black stuff out of the muffler. Thats leads me to belive that it is jetted to rich? Or that I need to lean it down somehow. Does anybody know how to do this? One the car warms up it runs great.

Re: 84 Lebaron Carb problems

HI ! have 84 myself that I just purchased couple of months ago. Took to chrysler had stuts, shocks put on and several other thing done plus checked over good by mechanic... had same problem as you... I found a plasitic stop had broken on the choke spring located on the side of the carb, to keep the choke from closing all the way I took a paper clip and put it on the choke valve where it would stop it about a eighth of an inch from the wall.. I KNOW, I KNOW this is shade tree, But the service manager at Chrysler laughed and said this is the best fix he had seen and all the K-Cars were great in his book except for the carbs that was the weak point, this was repeated by the mechanic who worked on the car. I will fix the stop but in the meantime the paperclip works.....FITZ

Re: 84 Lebaron Carb problems

I just got a service manual for mine off of ebay, but before that I spent a few hours looking at the carb and figured out a way to move the choke up and down on the Mikuni carb. I'm pretty sure that my plastic part isnt broken, and i no longer need the wire holding back my choke lol (I used the same concept as you)
