Lightbulb Question on 97 Camaro SS

I am looking at a 97 Camaro SS and would like to know if there's a way to determine if the SS package was stock on this model.
It has 17 polished wheels, hoodscoop, high rear spoiler, leather interior, dual exhaust off the headers, 94,000 miles, and in mint condition for a 10 year old car.

Also, what would a fair ballpark price to buy a car like this from a dealer? NADA says $8,200 while Kellys says $9,600 retail. Is 94,000 miles to used to be effiecient 9 months of the year? Here are pictures of it, THANKS BUNCHES!!!

Re: Question on 97 Camaro SS

Spoiler isn't stock, I know that much.
Neither are the wheels.

Just over 3,000 SS's were built in 1997. I can't check the VIN.
Might be able to call SLP with that VIN and verify though.

Re: Question on 97 Camaro SS

You can try to run the vin # online, if that doesn't help, call SLP, they'll have the vin on record if it is one of theirs.

That is a sweet looking car though!

Re: Question on 97 Camaro SS

ouch...the hood is throwing me..im thinking it was a z28 made to look like a ss...2 problems.... the wing is that type r wing from westcoast bodykits....that would be the first thing to go, second is those are ls1 ss wheels...the lt1 ss came with the same kind of 5 stars my f1 came with...(center caps are different). it looks clean though, and im no sure how much a lt1 ss would go for, i never seen any for sale. they are hard to find. im thinking i would try an go just a bit lower than what he's asking just because of that damn wing and the uncertain ss thing...make him a offer on it.

Is it a SS or a fake, I couldn't tell from that info? Thanks

You are going to have to call SLP.

I think it is a fake.
I mean, I can't imagine someone defacing an actual SS with that wing...

Re: Question on 97 Camaro SS

I ran the vin through an online vin registry and it has 39 records on file of this vehicle. I am not going to pay to see your records but 39 is pretty high if you ask me. That is pretty high if these are bad reports but there are some good reports that are usually in there too.

Re: Question on 97 Camaro SS

I doubt you will be able to get the info you are looking for via the internet using the VIN. SLP has those records.
SLP is by far the best bet. Sadly...might just have to wait until tomorrow.

Quick searches turned up nothing for me.

Re: Question on 97 Camaro SS

Thanks for all the help so far, I'm just going to have to call them tomorrow.
I know I need to look for Y2Y and WU8 in the glove box. This will help tell the truth.

I've looked for a Camaro across the country for over 2 years and this is the one that fits most of my needs. I wanted silver, those rims, power everything, that hoodscoop, and that rear spoiler(even though not many like it here ). But I do wish it was black leather instead of gray and had T-tops. If it's not a factory SS I will be fine with it still. The sales guy said it has billets and a special cam in the scoop. Also, the headers and duel-duel exhaust. With all this in mind what you guys/gals opinion on price one should pay for a 94,000 mile car with an automatic transmission? What should I look for(beyond the common things any car buyer would)? And is 94,000 miles scary for a 350/auto 10 year old car?

I'd like to add ground effects, tinted glass, and those UFO looking taillights to the car.

The carfax had lots of stuff in it about emissions always checking out perfect. Car was in New York for 8 years and they must require a checkup. Car is now in Minnesota though.

Sorry, if I'm full of to many questions but I'm getting close to purchasing and I found this forum and read how well informative and active you Camaro people are here!

Thats the problem, my girlfirend is getting sick of hearing about this one over all the other ones I've talked about. She's getting ready to holdout sex from me if I don't buy it. So the sooner I can make up my mind the better it will be here at home. I just always take forever to make a decision and hope that it gets sold so I don't have to decide. lol

Re: Question on 97 Camaro SS

For that price I think you could find yourself an LS1 car with that mileage.
Seems like 3K too much...if it isn't an SS.

The 98 or newer have different front ends, I don't like the look of them. Plus the 97 is the one I get to play in Gran Turismo for the last 7 years!

EDIT: It will be a 97 silver one or no Camaro at all, I've been set on this for quite a while. lol
