COMPLETE: Valentino Rossi's 2005 Gauloises Yamaha M1

Here's my latest build - Rossi's 05 M1. My third Rossi biuld on the trot. As everybody seemed to be doing the Laguna or Valencia version I thought I have a stab at the regular blue scheme using the same Zero M1 Yamaha blue I used on my 04 bike. With this model however I wanted to make some improvements to the finish and, as I display at several shows during the year, add some longevity to the model.
To this end and unlike the 04 bike, I cleared the decals, a technique I have only used a few times before. This is all an attempt at creating my 'system'.

In addition I wanted to recreate the correct looking carbon for this one and so I used SMS 1020 weave followed by 6 thin coats of Tamiya smoke. The glossy carbon finish is 2K clear - another part of the 'system'. The weave direction is also correct. The Gauloises markings are from Crazy Modeller - nice decals with no silvering whatsoever.
For the blue I used Mr Hobby Topcoat to clear the paint and decals. Out of the can this stuff levels very well and provides a nice scale shine.

Paint, decals were purchased from www.Hiroboy.com

Final shot showing my 04 and 05 bikes together - it's interesting to note the subtle changes made to the 05 season machine.

Hopefully you'll have noted some improvments in the photography - no blue hue. A step towards taking magazine quality pics for future submissions.

Great finish, very neat and tidy.I like it.The photographs look excellent as well,if a little small. The close-ups are fine but I would love to see some larger general views.

I have the '04 sitting on my to-do pile and I can only hope it'll turn out half as good as your models have! Really incredible builds. Your paint looks amazing too....exactly what colour is that? Definately going to find the '05 version in my LHS as you've made me want to get one bad!

looks nice, very very nice. i love them.

i'm thinking of making the early design with edwards' no. this time but not at the moment as i have few kits calling me to finish them. probably i'll use the renaissance set to try out.

Super work Paul! The paint is spot on and your detailing and photographer skills are at the highest standard. Really nice to see the bikes together like that.

From you THAT is a compliment...thank you

Ro & KevHw - the body colour is Yamaha M1 Blue - it's a match to Yamaha's pearl blue which is used on the 1:1 bikes. You can obtain it from Hiroboy.com (theres' a link at the top of my first post) under the Zero name. Comes airbrush ready and needs clearing.

Thank you everyone that has commented and taken a look.
