Thumbs down 00 Silverado won't start

Last Monday I started having this issue and I have yet to get time to fix this problem. I'm just hoping someone will have advice on what this might be or at least where to start. So here it goes...

I was driving around town all afternoon on Monday. No sign of any problems. I go over to a buddy's house and when I get in my truck to leave, it won't start. All I get is a clicking sound from what seems to be the starter or in that general area. My voltage is fine, battery has good charge, but no crank. Could this indicate a bad starter or maybe solenoid? Like I said, I haven't had time to look at it but any thoughts of what might be at fault would be appreciated.

Re: 00 Silverado won't start

I am going to bet the Battery has never been changed. I have a 2000 and I had to replace my battery last year from the original. I was pretty happy to get 6 years out of a battery.
You can have good voltage, but it is the cold cranking amps the battery is lacking.

Re: 00 Silverado won't start

If Like You say the battery is good then yes that could be a possibilty. That was what I would get on a car that I had before . you can get it tested or in My case I give the starter a couple of raps with a bar ,hit the key and it started right up. It did this a couple of times and I would do the same thing . So long story short I changed my starter and end of problem.

Re: 00 Silverado won't start

Battery is an optima yellow top about 3 yrs old. I recently had it charged for 24 hours and tested fine. I just don't understand why the whole day it would be fine then park it for 30 mins, come back out and have it not want to start.

Re: 00 Silverado won't start

guess I should of been more specific and said starter...........lol and not referred to starter as "that" seeing as others are referring to battery

Re: 00 Silverado won't start

I'm hoping it's my starter or just the solenoid, because that seems like it would be an ez fix, and not an electrical issue. Also, I checked with a friend of mine's dad, and he said it might be the started might have dropped out of align with the flywheel and just isn't matching up which it why it won't start. Seems like of far-fetched but it would be awesome if this was the problem.

Re: 00 Silverado won't start

what type of battery charger are you using to charge your optima battery. Most people don't know that they require a special charger to give them the correct charge. You need to find a charger that is designed for agm, deepcycle batteries. Most will do both starting batteries and agm batteries. A regualar charger does not give agm batteries a complete charge.

Re: 00 Silverado won't start

It's the correct charger, because I had it done once before and all it did was pretty give it a surface charge, which obviously didn't last. The second and most recent charge was done correctly and lasted all the way up to last monday, so about 2 months. Maybe it is time for a new battery

Re: 00 Silverado won't start

Ok so I fixed the no start issue (battery cable connector needed replacement), but now I'm getting a solid "SECURITY" on my dash while driving. It's not really effecting anything but it is annoying and could possibly cause problems i'm assuming. Anyone got any ideas?
