CVT Problem with my 2002 Lancer

Hi all,

I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer that has a loud "bump or knock" type sound coming from the tranny. I have little experience on how CVT transmissions work. In addition, my warranty has expired. As dejavu has it, my cousin in Trinidad has a "righthand" drive 2002 Lancer with the same problem I have here! Any ideas on how this occurs? What available resolutions and price approximates will I be looking at? Any recalls on older Lancers with CVT problems? I appreciate all the responses I get on this problem. I'm afraid I might get stuck out on the road or get into an accident. Please advise.
