96 SL1 Cracked head
I just bought a 96 sl1 for $400 with a cracked head,(oil in the coolant) I am hoping that I can fix it myself & not spend too much $$$ has anyone had this problem and can the head be repaired or should I just get a new one? I have never owned a Saturn before but I heard that they are decent cars if you take care of them. any suggestions...
thanks flrydr |

Re: 96 SL1 Cracked head
Yes they are good cars if you take car of them with required maintenance. Your project depends on how handy you are. You can change the head or replace the entire engine. Some will say that if you do the head and based on the mileage, to go after the lower end too! The more you do, the more dollars to add to the pile.
The SOHC is known for the cracked head in the first and second generations. There are vendors on the net that have reps for providing new rebuilt heads. If your going to do it, don't cut corners on the work to specs or parts. Good Luck.. |
