I just upgraded to an 01 aurora from a 95 Cutlass Supreme. It's an awesome car. I have the V6 3.5, but I hear the 4.0 is awesome too!

I own a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora that I'm now thinking about selling. Don't get me wrong... I LOVE the car, but it's just too quirky. Every electronic "memory" or "convenience" feature has either failed permanently or temporarily. The "Memory 1" seat/mirror memory feature has never worked since I've had the car, so the "#2" memory button is the only one that can be used to get all the peripherals back into their proper positions. Though I'm not the only person driving the car, there have been occasions when I was the only driver and the seat and mirrors would move out of position by themselves, presumably when the remote button was activated.

Additionally, the right-rear window regulator failed; that might not be so unreasonable, except that it was VERY RARELY used. The window only opens by a space of approximately four inches, so why bother? Incidentally, the replacement regulator was quoted by my dealership at almost $400.00, which IS totally unreasonable for a part that moves four inches and lasts approximately only 5 years when it's not even being used!

Though I have not yet confirmed my suspicions (partly because I don't think I'm going to keep the car), I believe the steering rack is going bad too. This, on a car with less than 50,000 miles!

Yes, I DO love the car; I love its styling, I love its features (when they're working), I love its drivability, I love its power as compaired to its economy. However, there are just too many other (more dependable) cars out there that offer the same things, usually for less money. If this car were more dependable, though, I would never part with it.

So, regarding your question about whether or not you should buy one, I guess the answer depends on the following:

1) How much do the features and styling appeal to you?
2) How much spare time do you have (for making repairs or sitting in the dealership's service department waiting room)
3) How much do you know about the mechanics of cars?
4) How secure is your financial status?

The steering wheel bearing was not lubed up in the factory. They had a recall on the rack and pinon. When I bought my Aurora 2001 they told me about the recall and they put in a new rack and pinon for free. But, you just might be able to take it in and have the bearing greased and that might fix the stearing.

i have the 01 3.5. I bought it with 67k on it.it now has 113,000.It has been a pretty good car. no major problems.all the toys still work.uses about a quart of oil every 1500-2000 miles.have a bad crank sensor right now i think ,from what I gather from the forums today.there is a lot of bang for the buck.I feel used ones are cheap right now.I saw a loaded '02 4.0 with a gps for 9500 with about 70k on it that was probably $40,000 new.

I love my Aurora also, but I am thinking of getting something else at this time. I have tried to fix all my problems, but we are having a intermit problem were the car vibrates on acceleration and a grinding sound when you hit the brakes. I have replace the brakes, turned the rotors, replace front will bearing, right front window motor and right rear window motor and regulator. If any one else has experience this intermit problem, I would appreciated any suggestions.
