exhaust issue..
i'm quiet new to 3000gt's.. since i have only owned a '89 supra, i'm wondering if it was possible for a 3000gt base model to rumble. is this possible to make my 3000gt rumble? if so what type of parts or tune up parts do i need? i know that vr4 could rumble since it's turbo etc..

Re: exhaust issue..
getting rid of all the cats/pre cats should give a deeper tone...but you may lose low end torque due to backpressure loss.
See if you can find sound clips for different mufflers on the web. |

Re: exhaust issue..
You would need to put different mufflers on it if you wanted a more aggressive sound. My SL exhaust was pretty tame so I can't see the base being any different.

Re: exhaust issue..
Exhaust alone doesnt make a car rumble. Think about it, are you going to get a Civic to rumble like an old muscle car because you put a dynomax muffler on it? No. Its still going to sound like a weedwacker on steroids. Theres so much that goes into how an exhaust sounds. A 3000gt DOHC will at best have an "exotic" sound to it. Its never going to rumble. The SOHC actually has more of a "muscle car" sound to it but its never going to sound like a V8. If you want name brand and a decent sound buy a Borla TT catback.

Re: exhaust issue..
There will be no rumble. Its not going to happen.
Also the Borla TT catback is larger and sounds wayyyyyy better than the Borla NA catback. The Borla NA catback is very tame.

Re: exhaust issue..
Exactly. The Borla TT will bolt directly up.

Re: exhaust issue..
TT catback has larger diameter piping and really no mufflers, just two resonators.

Re: exhaust issue..
I bought my cat back exaust for my 1993 SL on DN Performance. This system comes with all 3" piping and two resonators. This made my car rumble pretty well and the best part is that it is the same system for the N/A and TT so it will fit your car. I will be careful about losing low end torque though due to not enought back pressure as BlinkRA182 said. I then bought a VR-4 and bought the TT borla exhaust for it and that comes with the srtight piece of the system at a 3" pipe and splits into 2.5" pipes then to two SMALL resonators with intercooled tips. The borla isn't as loud but it definately gets the job done and also maintains a good amount of backpressure. So its all your choice but if your just looking for rumble not about the lose of low end torque go with DN Performance Cat back system.

Re: exhaust issue..
Turbos actually quiet the exhaust. A NA is actually going to be louder than a TT with identical exhaist set ups.

Re: exhaust issue..
I have another question, it might sound stupid but oh well, I want to know, so correct me if I'm wrong, is this the order that the exhaust downpipe etc.. goes like. So it's cat back exhaust, then a custom downpipe, a high flow catalytic converter, then the header right? correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not sure, I'm quiet new too all this mods/tuning etc...
