Headlights and Dash Lights go out when turned fully on
I have a 1996 GEO metro LSI 1.3 with composite lights. When I turn my
headlights to the on position, the daytime running lights and my dash lights go out. The headlights do not come on. When I go back one click to the parking lights, the dash lights and the running lights operate normally. When in the on position the High beams do not work, but in the parking light position the passing lights work. Could the DRL module be causing a short or could it be the combination switch.

Re: Headlights and Dash Lights go out when turned fully on
My '96 (1.0 l , non-composite lights) behaves in a similar way, except that the dash lights are unaffected (remain ON) by having the headlight switch turned to the fully ON position.
I believe the wiring harness, light switch, relays, and/or fusebox are not up to the task (under-designed) for the currents involved. Check for connector corrosion or wire-insulation or plastic melting in your fusebox near the hood-release. After removing corrosion from the main circuit that feeds into the fusebox, I have observed a temporary return of the high-beams' willingness to stay ON when the headlight switch is forward and for the headlights to remain ON when the switch is in the fully ON position. Then I'll hear a relay click and they're off again with the switch in the 'fully-ON' position. I think wiring up additional driving lights might be the easiest solution... |
