Carbon Fibre and Tubing help
im currently building a 1/12 scale repsol rc211v and im in need of some opinions
i noticed that on the carbon fibre piece below the HRC logo that covers the exhaust pipe has a sort of a criss cross pattern. anyone know what brand of cf decals can reproduce this? i noticed that the SMS plain weave doesnt really look like this: ![]() second of all, i noticed that on the real bike the hoseg for the throttle is clear. im wondering what size diameter tubing you guys use for your throttle, as well as your brake lines. thanks!

Re: Carbon Fibre and Tubing help
i saw some pictures of a 1/24 model with plain weave carbon fiber decals from SMS and i think its a bit more like the picture, but would 1/24 decals be too small on a 1/12 bike?

Re: Carbon Fibre and Tubing help
The appearence of CF is entirely subjective. A CF component will not look the same when viewed in different lighting, from different angles, and perhaps by different people. There is no correct answer- it's only a matter of what you think looks good/right.
Do you want to simulate a model buing viewed in direct sunlight? In a flourescent lit workbay? Lit by press photographer's strobes? Under even, ideal photographic lighting for a walkaround photo shoot? Does it matter to you? If not, it's more important to use a decal that behaves well for you. If you think the CF work has a distinct pattern, you can try to find a decal that matches that. But it doesn't really mean that it's more correct. The distinct pattern may or may not even exist in other pics of the same part. The best that CF decals can ever do is artisticly suggest that a part is made from CF- it will never objectively recreate it.

Re: Carbon Fibre and Tubing help
Look in the bike section or follow this:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=675756 I have since purchased the SMS 1/20 Sku#1020. It apparently resembles the real bike CF the closest. |

Re: Carbon Fibre and Tubing help
thanks for the feedback. i should have asked if 1/20 scale carbon fiber would look proper on a 1/12 scale model. i will try purchasing 1/20 scaled carbon fiber.

Re: Carbon Fibre and Tubing help
![]() I use two types, studio 27 for the exhaust cover (bigger CF size) and SMS hi def for the seat area (cover).. As we can see the size of the CF for both parts are different. Hope my pic can help you..
