1st gen vr4 vs. 91 integra b16 vtec & 06 wrx

how do you think i stack up against a integra with a b16 vtec that red lines at 8200 or a stock wrx (not sti) with a turbo. i have a basicaly stock 1st gen vr4 with only the "free boost mod" done to it so it has the 320hp. but my friend with the vtec says he'll take me and the kid in the wrx doesnt even think ill be a challenge.

Re: 1st gen vr4 vs. 91 integra b16 vtec & 06 wrx

you should bury the integra.

the new 'rex's are quick...i would call that a driver's race, but i believe the numbers are on your side.

this hypothetical or are you actually gonna run them?

if the guy with the wrx gives you shit if you lose, remind him of the price difference lol

The only way you are losing is an unhealthy car or driver error.

Toss down $100, run them both, fill up your tank and buy a nice bottle of burbon to celebrate the win.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

yeah im actually running both of them in a couple of weeks. i got my vr4 for $800 from a friend and fixed it and got it running and now im fixing all the little crap and then im going to run both of them cause they think there cars are the fastest things on the road. but mommy and daddy bought both of there cars, i did everything on my own so im hoping i win so i can rub it in there face how the car i bought and built myself beat both there mom and dads rides. the kid in the wrx is the only one i am thinking might take me. the kids a nut and his parents pay for the car so hes not afraid to launch it at 6 grand and shift off rev limiter. but im still going to give it hell and see what happens...how about parkway runs who do you think would come on top? and what should i shift at in a 1st gen vr4. the red line starts at 7 should i shift there or get alittle into before shifting?

Re: 1st gen vr4 vs. 91 integra b16 vtec & 06 wrx

I would take them from a dig and launch the hell out of it. Cross your fingers that the t-case holds lol.

Im sure most guys on here will tell you to shift at redline...but since the stock turbos lose boost after 5k anyways, i tend to shift around 6500, just to save the engine a little. Maybe not the fastest method though, so see what everyone else says and take their advice

My GTC can beat both of those. You shouldn't have a problem. Besides, the WRX will run out of gearing by about 80MPH.

I love punks like that. I get crap like that from people all the time just because I'm a girl and they think I don't know anything. The biggest satisfaction comes from seeing them eat their words.

You should have no problem with either of them. My SL could run pretty even with a stock WRX, and aside from the launch the last one I drove didn't impress me at all. I don't think the guy with the Honda even has a chance. Neither of them have any advantage over you, so unless you really mess up your launch or grind all your shifts, don't worry.

Tegs have B18's. The VTEC B18 runs high 14's low 15's at best. The WRX is all launch and nothing after that. Think about it, same power as a SL with AWD weighing it down and AWD DTL. My talon could smoke both of them. My Talon aint exactly stock though either.

you can beat them both. If you want to laugh even harder, run the guy in the WRX from a 70 mph roll on the interstate.

people talk so much crap and can't back it up cuz they don't know better. some kid keeps talkin' crap about my vr4 saying his turbo mazda6 can "keep up" with me. i told him that it depends on how you define "keep up" in a race between a mid 14 car and a high 12/ low 13 car. most rich kids can't drive their cars for shit anyway.

Agreed. They don't know better. They like to insult or put down what is not the norm. Before I got my 3000gt SL nearly all of my friends would say comments like, "That thing is a boat. That thing is so heavy don't get it. Don't get that car man it's SLOW."

And well to make a long story short. The same week I got my 3kgt I was the fastest out of all of them. Four months ago my friend slapped on a Turbo on his hatchback Civic. He pulls pretty hard, but I can still take him. So much for talking crap.

Re: 1st gen vr4 vs. 91 integra b16 vtec & 06 wrx

u will beat the acura real bad ,but i believe u will lose to the wrx,my dad has one and ive raced it alot, that one is pretty close, i now stock there 0 to 60 in 5.7 secs, and weigh 3300 pounds and have 227hp,how are the vr4 with reliability , thinking about picking one of the older ones up,i have a 1995 firebird formula ws6 clone that i run mid 12s 1/4 with, but it breaks alot and i get real bad gas 12mpg and whats the stock specs on them , if u guys have any questions about the wrx and the acura B16 feel free to ask i now alot bout those 2 cars later ///oh i disagree about the wrx dying on top end ive gotten it up to 140 and was neck to neck with my uncles's 05 ford stang gt that has many boltons,

Re: 1st gen vr4 vs. 91 integra b16 vtec & 06 wrx

Not to bash your car, but I've run over a dozen wrx's...some stock some modded...all lost, and all of them were when I was running stock boost. As well, their gearing over 100 certainly kills them. It might still go up to 140 'quickly' compared to alot of cars on the road. But compared to the vr4, the wrx they are both obviously slower cars, and it only becomes more obvious at higher speeds where the wrx's gearing and aerodynamics (or lack there-of) slow it down. I like hte wrx, my mom owns a Subaru, and 2 of my friends have wrxs...but the vr4 has the clear advantage.

Also as far as your questions on the vr4, please check out our FAQ...lotsa good stuff in there.
