Car Covers / Portable Garages
Just curious. Are car covers safe for our cars and for the paint? I have a garage, but it's used for storage. Way too small for a 3kgt. I'll see if I can fit a portable garage in my driveway.
Are car covers safe? During winter? During summer heat? Are there good quality car covers out there that won't cause harm or damage to cars? |

Re: Car Covers / Portable Garages
Any car cover is gonna be alot nicer to your clear coat and paint then acid rain, sleet, hail, falling acorns/twigs, bird crap, etc. If you are gonna store it long term, I'd park it ontop of a tarp to prevent condensation/rust on the bottom of the car, and put it on jackstands so you don't get flat spots on the tires. (check out the winterizing section of our FAQ for more storage suggestions)
That said, a universal cover may not fit...so you may have to do some searching for one.

Re: Car Covers / Portable Garages
ive got mine in under a portable garage for the winter. The brand is Shelters of America. I'm extremely happy with it. So far this winter it's stood up to 50+mph winds and 4in of snow accumulation. The manufacturer says its not rated for snow load, so i clean it off periodically during storms, but it seems pretty rugged. Its 12' by 20' IIRC, and the frame is heavy gauge galvanized steel (like fence posts basically, and about the same size).
Not trying to plug for the company, but for just over $500 delivered to my door, i think its a great deal. If you want pics of mine let me know and ill snap a few. Heres the website if your interested. http://www.sheltersofamerica.com/pro...ductid=71&id=1 thats the one i have. If you plan on using it as more of a garage rather than just car storage, i would get the one with the strait sides http://www.sheltersofamerica.com/pro...uctid=460&id=1 as for car covers...i tend to avoid them, but if your gonna get one, get a good one that doesnt hold in moisure. I had my other car under a cheap cover a few winters ago and when i opened it up in spring the whole interior was moldy as hell and smelled like ass. |
