Gateway doesn't work after Blackout
This has not happened many times at all, only when the power is shut off not purposely or it's been shut off for like 2 months, but when I tried to turn it on (after a planned power grid restart, accidentally left PC on when I was away tonight) it powers up with the fan REALLY loud, but the bios doesn't work, nothing loads, it doesn't power up the monitor/keyboard/etc.
The first time this happened, I took the Tower to BestBuy and they tested it and said nother was wrong with it, so I thought my surge protector was too old so I bought a new one and it worked...then another 2 months later it will not even work on THIS new surge protector. Please help!! Model GM5607H Media Center

Re: Gateway doesn't work after Blackout
I bet if you take the memory out, wave it around like a 5 year old with a pixie stick for a few seconds, and put it back in it will POST and boot up.
I service a lot of Gateway computers on campus and I see this problem a lot. They use shit motherboards with faulty RAM slots that occasionally go haywire, and re-seating the memory tends to get it to work again. Give it a try.

Re: Gateway doesn't work after Blackout
You were right...sort of, I didn't touch the memory but I opened the case and looked inside, checked the fan. then closed it up and it works now, just like at Best Buy.

red LED on the mother board to tell you when the capacitors are depleted, but wait awhile after it goes out just to be safe. a quick cold start or power failure won't quite do it, just be sure your cmos battery is good or that you have a flash back up of your cmos settings. There's been a lot of times peeps throw the PC in the back seat and drive it down for repair just to find nothing wrong. just needed time. |
