automatic to manual tranny swap

I have a 96 sunfire 2.4L with an automatic transmission and am thinking about swapping the transmission to a 5 speed manual. I was planing on getting a used tranny and all the rest that goes with it from a junk yard. does anyone have experience in doing this or any suggestions?

it would probably be cheaper and more worth your time to just by another '96 2.4 sunfire with a 5 spd in it already. spending that kinda cash to do this mod isnt worth it on a sunfire.

Re: automatic to manual tranny swap

Why do you want to change from auto to manual? If you only doing this because you think manuals are faster then your stupid... If your auto tranny is messed up and want to replace it, then its okay, but i wouldnt trust old manual tranny's...

Dude not cool to insult the guy he's just asking for a little advice. Who cares if he wants to change it from a auto to a manual. If you've never done it or think its a bad idea then KEEP YOUR TRAP SHUT!! \

Hey man if you wanna swap them out then cool go for it. Actually if you have some help it's not really that bad. Time consuming yes but really its just lengthy the standard will also give you more room in the engine bay so maybe a turbo in the future?? Regardless I've done a few on s-10's and older full size chevy trucks. My s-10 over the course of a yr got way better gas milege, I saved about 2k in one yr. just on fuel,if you do decide to go through with it let me know how it goes.

Re: automatic to manual tranny swap

Its all doable....Swap in a fire wall from a cav that was a manual.

I'm actually looking for a toyota cav front clip with fire wall that was manual.

JDM clip from japan.

...this is how we killed Feb-First week in May at RDFABS.
