where to buy a transmission?

Should i go to the stealership to have a new tranny installed or to a regular mechanics shop in town. Will either of than have warranties? Are there any beefed up tranny's that i can get that might last longer? I have 130000 miles on my 2000 silverado 4x4. Last time the dealer worked on my truck i took it to them every day for a week and they swore they put in a new fuel pump everyday till it finally worked on the 5th try.

Re: where to buy a transmission?

That is a very broad question.
First thing you can not buy a new transmission.
Gm offers a factory rebuilt transmission with a 3 year or 50K warranty.
Which should have the latest updates.
A dealer or independent repair shop can install it for you.
And warranty is good at any GM dealer nation wide.

Stay away from chain store transmission places.

If you have a real good transmission repair shop in your area they can rebuild or get you a rebuilt transmission.
But the key is real good shop.

Check around Ask around
Word of mouth.
Family friends coworkers neighbors business people and delivery people.
Mailmen and parcel delivery people get around and notice a lot of stuff.
Even a good parts house knows what shops are good and not good.
Chamber of commerce and better business bureau and city hall.
If you find a good referral to a repair shop go look them over and talk to them.
Look for a clean looking busy place with nice people running it.
Ask a few questions and ask about their qualifications and training.
Not all places have trained tech/mechanics.
If they do not find a place that does.
Even all dealers do not have all trained techs/mechanics.

Get one from the best,Jasper and they have the best warrenty out there.Jasper goes through that transmission and puts in updated parts that are flaws in design.

and flt doesn't update, they upgrade the parts that most commonly fail in the 4l60e. You must work for Jasper, because I've seen alot of posts where you tell people to go to them.

I do not work for Jasper,I hear this from the Jasper rep that comes in my father's shop once in a while. He brings in an upgraded part for a certain engine or transmission and a little dvd player showing upgrades done.

Re: where to buy a transmission?

Jasper Trans would be the better deal, than going to the stealership
