sputters

Can someone please help me , I have a 1994 lincoln towncar that started sputtering and cutting off well we changed the pluges and fuel filter and the car is still doing it , when you push the gas it sputters and acts like it don't want to go and you can sometimes hear a pop (or some kind of noise) 3 people has told us that it is the ignition coil. My car is falling apart I also have 3 windows that want go down and my rear end is gone down but all I want to fix right now is the puttering. Thanks

Yep, that sure does sound like a Coil. Could also be cheap or bad Spark Plug Wires.

The windows can be a simple fix, or complicated... two things go bad at this age; the Regulator (track and assembly that the glass moves on) or the Motor Clutch Bushings (plastic inserts between the motor and final drive).

The rear end down can be as simple as someone shut off the switch in the trunk or as complicated as some system component died. At this age I'm guessing the Air Springs developed pinhole leaks; if left in this condition the Compressor overworks keeping up with the leaks, and kills it.

Thanks for the reply , the switch has been cut off but the car still goes down after a few days.

Sounds like you switch it on every few days to pump it back up. If it holds air for a few days that's not too bad, usually that indicates pin holes at the base of the Air Springs. A competent mechanic would have that fixed in less than 2 hours, about $200 in parts (new air springs), plus the going labor rate.

Cycling the system on/off is the best way to preserve the Compressor, smart thinking !!!
