fuel gauge 93 blazer

my gas gauge seems to only go down when i'm about to run out of gas.i can put $2 in it it goes all the way up until it is about to run out again?i have pulled out the sending unit about 3 times cleaned the connections and still the same any ideas

$2??? you're probably running out of gas getting out of the gas station. J/K check out this old post and pay attention to Old Master's posts:

it doesn't matter how much gas i put in it it goes all the way up just before it runs out of gas the gas light starts flickering and the gauge drops but before it does run out it goes back up .i've checked all the connections and the sending unit i put the fuel pump in myself also the odometer only works when it wants to could this be the same thing causing this
