Racing in my Ford...oh boy...

Alright, it's been about forever since I've made an actual post on any races I've had. As a matter of fact this will be my first official racing post of 07(I know you're all on the edge of your seats with anticipation).

So here go's. This happend a little while back and was my first actual race with my new Blue Oval. It was against my good buddy in his 06 SS/SC. I'm all stock still and he's got a CAI, injectors, 2.7 inch pulley, a custum tune w/ raised revs and maybe one or two other little things. We hopped on the freeway after leaving a mutual friend's house and decided to see how my new car stacked up to the modded Cobalt.

So we lined them up at about 60 mph in 3rd gear and he honked us off. I got a bit of a jump on him because he didn't his his throttle nearly as fast as I did, but then he started to make those couple yards back and then as he got to my front fender and he stopped pulling and stayed right there. We kept into it through 3rd and a bit into 4th untill traffic was coming up, when I shut down my front bumper was about 8 feet further than his.

Okay, time for round two. This time our other buddy with a 5 spd Slobalt LS wanted in on the fun (Really didn't see how much fun that would be for him, but oh well.) We let traffic get out much further so that we had more than a half mile of open pavement to play with and this time I honked us off. We had a much more even start this time and to my surprise that little fucker got a half car length of a lead on me within the first 6 seconds of the run. No matter though, because I was gaining back my pride one foot at a time untill I passed him around the 105-110 mph mark. I gained some more space on him and shut down with about a length or so on him. I'd like to tell you what happend to Slobalt LS dude, but I have no fucking clue. It took him about minute to catch us after we shut down and he was made fun of thoroughly.

This next one was much more recent, happening about two weeks ago. Was heading to my buddies place and desided to take the surface streets instead of the highway. Ended up behind some younger guys in a white RSX type S with the massive Type S wing thingy, nice rims, a pretty nice body kit, lowering springs, an exhaust and to top it all off...Honda Integra badges...wtf.
Anywho, there was too much traffic to have any fun with them when I came upon them, so I let them be. But this didn't stop them from zipping through traffic trying to overtake me whenever possible and pretty much driving like asses. Everytime they'd pass me and blast ahead I'd end up right behind or ahead of them at the next light, which was very amusing to me and my girl.

We finally get to our road and it just so happend they wanted that one as well. And as luck would have it, it was open! So I got beside them doing 50 mph or so and just sat there and waited for a sign from them. The driver hits his throttle a bit to put the fear in me, so I double clutched into 2nd to put the fear in him . So I sit there next to him with my revs at about 4500 for a few moments before he desides to go. When he finally does make a move, it wasn't pretty. 6,000 rpm and 3rd gear come in an instant and so does 2 lengths. I carried out 3 for just a few seconds which was long enough to put another length and a 1/2 on him and shut down around 75 mph or so.
They never lift off the throttle and pulled a nice fly by and my girl and I have a good laugh. They did however give me a thumbs up that I returned just before they turned off the street.

Sorry these stories are a bit lame and that there aren't any more of them. It's just that no one races me any more now. I guess even with 19 scoops, shiney chrome pipes and a young driver this car just doesn't attract the same kind of attention the SS got.

Maybe if I got a nice wing.....

So is that a move up or down?

... or more of a Lateral move?

I like the new Mustangs, they've grown on me.

Well if we're talking about lateral grip, then it's a definate move DOWN... It's like a shopping cart with a bent wheel, but the ability to powerslide on command makes it way more fun than the Cobalt. Overall it is much more car than the Cobalt. But I gotta say, if the Cobalt had been rear drive and didn't have the tendancy to fall apart when you touched it, The Cobalt would have stayed in my garage. It was that good overall.

Oh yeah, Matty...If you've got a Mustang growing on you then you need to go see someone about that. It doesnt sound good.

Re: Racing in my Ford...oh boy...

Damn Mustangs... they grow on you like Mullets.

Usually at the back of your head where you can't see it untill it's to late like a cancerous growth.

Powersliding = good thing.

Probably the only fun times I had in my Z28... was when the ass was kicked out with opposite lock. All other times, it was spent at the gas pump or being repaired.

You're Camaro never treated you right on one account...you never grew a man enough mullet for the car. Those Camaros are funny about that sort of thing. All it would'a taken was one good Mullet and you and your Camaro would still be a happy couple.

So basically it just boils down to one problem Matty...You're a Mulletless pussy and your car was too manly for you.

Hahah, yeah the T-Tops were a bit too much for me... I couldn't handle it.

Oh well. I'll just need to man up next time.

I've been trying to get it to the track for about 4 weekends now. Every time I go there's an NHRA meet on sat that shuts it down for fri night drags.

Then this last friday my buddy got married which kept me from the track. But this friday night is the ticket. I wanna get down there before it heats up too damn much. It's already been over 80 out for the last week.

I'd love to his something in the 13.7-13.8 range, but I'll take anything in the low 14's and high 13's for my first time out. Hell, most of the ppl that have a new stang are so pathetic they can't even crack off better than a high 14 second pass.

Re: Racing in my Ford...oh boy...

yeah most new stangs i see at the track are low 14's, i did see one guy with an intake and tune running 13.7's. I hear those engines have alot to gain from just a tune over the factory tune.
