Everex Notebook

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge with everex notebooks or desktops for that matter? I am looking at the StepNote XT5000T, can get a pretty good deal on it. I just don't have any idea what the company is like and can't find any reviews on it. Thanks.

Re: Everex Notebook

I just havn't ever heard of the company and was curious. According to their website they have been around since 1983, who knew. It is built with quality components, but you just never know. I will probably pick it up, unfortunately the extended warranty throught office max isn't really worth it since it's $250. Anyhow for $900, seems like a pretty good deal to me. Thoughts?

Re: Everex Notebook

Looks pretty good to me for the money, but you are taking a chance with a company I've never heard of either. Might be worth the risk though, espcially since your getting it through Office Max and can always return it if you don't like it.

Re: Everex Notebook

Any computer is only as good as the warranty and support that goes with it - what are they offering?

Re: Everex Notebook

Manufacturer is standard one year. I can buy a 3 year extended for $250 which as I see it in their terms doesn't cover incidentals but the sales guy said it does. Either way at that cost it's almost 30% of the total cost which isn't really worth it in my book.

To add to that, the warranty is only as good as the company behind it

Re: Everex Notebook

I own the XT. It's an awesome computer...Vista's lame, but pc is fast, great looking display and if you want to hook up to your tv like me, it's got DVI out. Don't buy the extended warranty though, it's a rip-off.

Oh and a guy at officmax said it will probably go on sale on 4-22 for $699 so you want to get it the week before then go back and get your price adjustment. If you wait until the sale weekend it will probably be sold out...

Re: Everex Notebook

Everex has been around for awhile, the started making IBM clones in '83 but $250 is outrageous for an extended warranty do the have a 30% failure rate?

Re: Everex Notebook

I don't think $250 for an extended warranty is outrageous at all. Quite the opposite in fact.

It all depends on what it's worth to you, how much $$$ you'll lose if it goes down, and what your level of computer experience is.

Depending on what it includes (9-5, NBD, shipping included - or NBD onsite) isn't a bad deal at all.

Re: Everex Notebook

I ended up picking it up without the warranty. So far I have been very happy with it. The screen is great. I haven't done a huge amount of gaming yet, but it's definately fast. It kicks out a lot of heat, but the underside and such as hardly even warm to the touch.

I would assume that they have a 30 day price guarntee like everyone else, so if it does go on sale it shouldn't be an issue.

Yup. I work for Officemax and on electronics we can only match the price within 14 days. We currently have a Toshiba Laptop thats on sale for 699. Should've picked that up. About the warranty, not to be biased but it is worth it. I was totally against it but then I've seen customers stopped in with there "Maxassurance" gift card.

Did you purchased the laptop online? Usually there warranties are cheaper. It does cover accidental damage. Ever since that new accidental damage came out, we didn't have a problem selling them. You still have 7 days after purchase to decide to get the warranty.

As for the Everex laptops, never heard of them really. We don't have them in our inventory. I know another store that carries them. Anyways, I'd take it back and switch out for the Toshiba Laptop thats on sale. We don't have it on our website but I believe the model number is A135-S4535? 1GB memory along with 120GB hard drive. The processor is 1.7 ghz (Duo Core Centrino T2250).

Re: Everex Notebook

Wouldn't change my mind, I will never again own anything with an intel processor. I have had nothing but bad luck with intel, and every amd product that I have ever owned I have been happy with.

I'm also an AMD fan, but the Core 2 Duo kills pretty much anything out right now. That Toshiba only has a Core Duo, but would still put up a fight against your Turion X2. Intel is about 6-9 months ahead of AMD in the manufactuering dept right now and AMD is just now getting out 65 nm cores, which Intel has had for like....almost a year it seems. Just an FYI.
