Exclamation ETS OFF and Check Engine Light On

Hello All,

Quick question..I have to replace my hub on a 97 cav and was wondering if it could cause the ETS to deactivate. It has been on for a while now and with the snow haven't had the chance to replace the hub.(Actually just finished the injectors not too long ago in the freezing cold)

Anyway, would the ETS off light be caused by the hub, and would it also cause the CEL to come on. Is there a fuse to totally deactivate the ETS without causing problems elsewhere??

Thanks
D'

Re: ETS OFF and Check Engine Light On

There are no sensors incorperated with the hubs on our cars other than the vehicle speed sensors mounting near the rear of them hovering over the grouves on the CV shaft. Its possible that one of those sensors at one of the 4 wheels has a bad/fowled connection and turning the traction control system off. Its extremly hard to diagnose this problem as i have had that combo come on before for having my tach adaptor grounded along with the grounds for my gauges in the car on the same wire. Then again for using seafoam and pouring it directly into the TB. Caused the car to shift extremly hard for about 5 miles, then went away. But Go to your local advance auto or autozone and get the codes read, it will help aid in a quicker fix time.

Re: ETS OFF and Check Engine Light On

I had Check-engine and ETS light and had autozone read it for me. There were multiple things that could have caused mine: gas cap, camshaft positioning sensor, AC condensor (or something like that), etc. Ended up taking it to the dealer.......waste of money.

They said it was the gas cap. I told her I already replaced the cap. She asked if I reset the light? Nope, didn't know you had to, thought curing the problem would make light go away. Anyway, they put the lights out, but tried to sell me new tires, alignment, blah blah blah, etc., all for a grand. I told them to take a hike. My tires are good and car drives very straight.

Anyway, two weeks later both lights came on again. They'll be on for a month, then they'll go out for awhile, then back on etc......I just live with it. My car is ten years old and i'm about done with it anyway. Just pisses me off that the dealer can't find/fix the source of the problem, yet they think you need to buy all their other garbage...........friggin dealers.
