Cutlass speedometer starts jumping & trans stop working

I have a 1997 cutlass supreme v6 3.1L. My speedometer starts jumping up and down. Then it goes to 0 and my trans won’t sift into gears. The odometer stops working when this happens. Can someone please HELP! What could be the problem?

Welcome to AF. Bad speed sensor in the trans. or it is disconnected/loose.

the speed sensor is easily accesible... go to autozones website and punch in your vehicle info... get your self a diagram so you know what your looking for... before you take it in you can see if the connection is faulty..just a thought
