A kill in the rental.

As some of you know I wrecked my Stealth a couple of weeks ago. While it's in the shop I got a Pontiac G6 as a rental. It's a V6 sedan with an automatic. The race was against a co-worker who drives a Volkswagen Golf GTi with the VR6. We were headed to work and caught a light. He took the open lane to get next to me and I knew why. Is soon as the light tuned green I floored it. His car seemed to bog a little at the start but nothing to make him lose. Anyhow; as we pulled up the hill I just kept walking away. By the time he gave up I would say I had a 1 1/2 cars on him.

When we got to work he blamed the sun being in his eyes and his coil pack. He claimed he is running on only three cylinders.

Yeah, those good ole VDub's are known for their horrible coil packs. No matter, if the car doesn't run right it's his fault. Most likely, though, you were just in a faster car. Those V6 G6's run high 14 sec. 1/4 miles as I recall.

Re: A kill in the rental.

Compared to their 1.8t counterparts the VR6 is rather slow, Untill someone goes and turbos it that is...

Re: A kill in the rental.

Sounds like your co-worker figured he would one-up you while your Stealth was in the shop, oops

Was the rental the GTP version of the G6? I would guess the GTP n/a G6 is the high 14 sec. car. It has 240 hp/241 tq. 3800lbs vs. 201/221 non GTP...

Nice run...

Uhhh, no. The VR6 is faster then the 1.8T Jetta/A4. You can mod the 1.8T easier though.

Re: A kill in the rental.

Nope, this isn't a GTP.

Also, I undsteand that they have coil pack issues but have you ever driven a car with a cylinder down? There is no way is has three down.

no dude sorry its not, go look at 1/4 times. The VR6 is a mid to high 15 sec. car with an average driver(some of those people have nice mods too) and the 1.8t is a low 15 second car with an average driver.

faster than an A4 yes faster than a jetta no, A4 is too heavy and the jetta is 200-300 pounds, depending on which one you get, lighter than the VR6

That VR6 is one heavy lump of an engine.

Re: A kill in the rental.

The VR6 has more a few more wtq and the 1.8t tends to get a few more whp but there is a pretty big difference in weight.

Re: A kill in the rental.

Yes, the A4 is heavier and shouldn't be compared to the Jetta. Also, the 1.8t in the A4/Passat is not exactly the same design as the Jetta. The engine sits longitudinally in the A4/Passat whereas the engine in the Jetta sits horizonatally/transverse.

yeah but we are comparing the vr6 to the 1.8t. cause 2000ls1 said the vr6 jetta is faster than the 1.8t jetta.

I'm quoting him directly here... he mentioned 1.8t Jetta/A4 like it was the same. I'm simply pointing out that they are not the same. I know some VW shit too.

i know i understand what youre saying, im not aruing, they are too different to be counted the same. But what he was saying was the the jetta VR6 is faster than the jetta 1.8t which it's not, but anyways back on topic.

I think they should make a G6 GXP with either a V8 or Supercharger in there, or hell even use those new 2.0 turbo engines they are using. that would be sweet.

Re: A kill in the rental.

The new G8 will have a v8 362hp engine as an option. Its based on the Holden Commodore on the new Zeta platform, which is the same one that the camaro will be using.

I think it looks pretty bad ass

Re: A kill in the rental.

^^^yeah but that is replacing the Grand Prix, I'm saying to do something like that in a G6 where the body is lighter and much more nimble. Plus Pontiac doesnt have their version of the Cobalt/Redline, so seeing one would be awsome.
