Diff. Fluid Volume ??

Does anyone know the fluid volume to refill the differential on an 02 Silverado w/4.8L 2WD or know where the tag is that shows the ring gear size? All I see is some random numbers stamped into the case...The housing is about as big as a basketball or so...nothing heavy duty....

Thanks for help in advance...

Re: Diff. Fluid Volume ??

Well, it may be a little more "heavy duty" than you think. It's certainly not as wimpy as some of the older Toyota Tundras or Nissan pickups. You may have an 8½ 10-bolt, a 9½" 12-bolt, or even a 10½" or 11" 14-bolt. You can count the bolts in the rear cover to determine what you have.

They are all listed as having a capacity of 2.12 quarts of 80W90 AGMA gear oil or 75W85 or 75W90 AGMA synthetic gear lube. If you are not messy, you'll need three bottles to fill it properly. Regardless of the volume listed, always fill it to the point of overflow at the fill plug.

Blue Bowtie,

Do you know if they are using an actual gasket for the rear cover on this truck or did they go with just the silicon sealer...because I can't find a gasket for it at any of the parts houses...?
