misfire when hot
I have 95 SL-2 with 146000 miles and a five speed.
I have had some difficulty getting the car to pass the smog test. According to the print out, everything is OK except there are too many hydrocarbons at idle. The standard is 130ppm, and I'm pushing out 160. The car seems to run pretty well until it reaches normal operating temperature. Then I notice a misfire. I still get 30 mpg or better, which is about what it always gets and I've owned the car since it was new. I have changed plugs (standard autolites), wires, PCV valve, air filter, fuel filter, thermostat, oil, oil filter, ECTS and connector (from Saturn). I checked the OBDI system and it had stored codes of 12 and 32. I removed the EGR and cleaned it out and got the pintel moving freely again. After pulling the PCM2 fuse, the system has reset with only the code 12 remaining. Does anyone have suggestions as to what I am missing? This forum has been a great help in the past. My thanks to all who contribute! |

Re: misfire when hot
Coulb be either the e.g.r.(running too rich) O2 sensor or your cat converter. In that order i think.....

Re: misfire when hot
If you have rid the OBD I of the Code 32 .. your EGR is meeting the PCMs specs.. if the misfire is present.. look at a spark plug, spark plug wires, igntion coil or the ignition module/coil connected to the transmission...
