HV/HP oil pumps need a bigger oil pan?

Im going to be using a HV/HP oil pump and Im wondering how many extra quarts of oil ill need. Will a 5QT pan be enough (+1 for the filter so 6 all together) or do I need a pan with 6qt capacity?

if its for a stock or even mid to high perf engine, you dont need an high pr or high volume oil pump, people are brainwashed that it a must have thing if you make over 300hp or something

I've been running a stock 5qt pan with my HV pump for the last 270,000-odd miles, if that means anything. Then again, I don't rev my engine to 6k, nor do I run a high pressure spring in it.

HV oil pumps are for engines that have increased oil clearances (main, rod & cam bearings, lifter bores etc), high mileage engines, engines designed for sustained high RPM, or engines that have 'leaky' ('variable duration') flat tappets (think of Rhoads lifters for high lift cams that make the engine idle easier). You don't need one in a stock engine. In any case, you will want one for an engine that makes trips above 5k RPM, along with a 6-7 quart pan, or ideally (and expensively), a 22-qt external tank system (also known as a 'dry sump' system).

I took your advice silicon and I got a sealed power Hv pump for mine with Standard pressure, cause my crank didnt need to be turned but its still worn a little and I need the HV

The HV/HP pump Question was for a buddy of mine.

So he'll need a 6/7 quart oil pan?

Yes, if he's turning high RPMs, above 5,000 on a continuous basis, he will need the larger pan if he doesn't want the bottom end to modify the pan for increased ventilation.
