different transmissions?

i have a 1993 olds cutlass supreme SL, with the 3.1 V6 Vin T engine, and i went to get a new filter for my tranny, but they gave me the wrong one, but according to autozone thats the only filter for the only transmission that should have come with my car, but as soon as i say its a different engine, the VIN M, i get the right filter.

Did oldsmobile have only one trans for one engine, and is it possible that my car may have had a swap, and is there a way by looking at the engine to see what Vin Code it is, i know according to my VIN number i should have the T engine, but im second guessing that

Re: different transmissions?

count the number of bolts holding on the trans fluid pan. without a VIN you can identify trans models by this method... 4t60 =19 bolts... I think.. i still get confused between that one and the 4t60e.... anyways, look into that further and you'll see what i mean... my VIN is N, a 3300 in a 91 ciera... you have the right motor, possibly a different trans...

well it says right on the pan, 4T60 - E, im just curious if they only matched one trans with one kind of engine, hence 4T60-E with the VIN M, and 4T60 with the VIN T, or however they did it

wow... i am an idiot... you know i've never thought to try to read anything on my pan except "hydramatic"... so mesmerised by the complexity of this word... anyways... im curious as to how many bolts your pan has, i did my trans service last week... ordered the part from carquest, and on the computer at work it said... if you have this many bolts, get this filter... so did autozone make a mistake? or was there in fact trans options...

Re: different transmissions?

autozone just has the 4t60 when u select the VIN T engine, but if u were to select the vin M engine, then it comes up with only being able to have a 4t60E tranny, so im not sure whats goin on here

Re: different transmissions?

Rule of thumb here... The THM 440-T4(4T60) has the 19 Bolt pan, and the 4T60-E has the 20 Bolt Pan... The 60-E and 65-E actually use the same filter kit...

and yes some of the 93 3.1's were attached to the 4T60-E's as was the 3.4 DOHC engine..

Re: different transmissions?

In the 60-"E" and the 65-"E" the "E" stands for electronically controlled overdrive with electronic controlled TCC. pretty simple to under stand.. newr, bettr

And the 4t65-E HD's, wow, thier so dreamy
