Older F1 Season Reviews

Hi guys,

I have the 2003 onwards reviews on DVD and few of the earlier seasons on VHS. Does anyone know where I can get hold of earlier seasons in MPEG/DVD format? I seem to remember seeing someone on eBay selling stuff he had converted from VHS to DVD but can no longer find his listings.

I'd convert them myself but it is about 100GBP for an analogue to digital converter which is just a bit too pricey. And I would have to get a VHS player again, as I sold my last player about 5 years ago becuase it never got any use

Kind regards,
Bill

P.S. I contacted Formula One Administration and asked them to re-release them on DVD and they couldn't even be bothered to reply

Re: Older F1 Season Reviews

Duke Video are gradually re-releasing all the older WRC highlights tapes on DVD, so maybe their F1 stuff is next. Unfortunately the Formula One administration has such a tight clasp on what gets reproduced that we may be in for a long wait! Duke have also released the "Golden Years" series, but at £15 a pop they're a bit expensive after 11 disks...

I'm fortunate that I have all the "Golden Years" DVDs (1970-1980), then every VHS review from the first one (1981) until the DVDs started appearing, IIRC in 2000.

Buy a new VCR - my Sony only cost £60 from the high street.

Re: Older F1 Season Reviews

I have seen the Duke DVDs, F1 Season Reviews from the 70s on eBay and have considered them but have not yet taken the plunge. The duration of the reviews looked very short and I suppose this put me off a little.

I am coming to the conclusion that this is the only option if I want to re-live some older seasons and get inspiration for my builds. Unfortunately, I have been eBaying all my "clutter" so this very much goes against the grain for me. It looks like I will just have to do without until such a time as they are released on DVD or sold on iTunes or something

Thanks for posting,
Bill

Re: Older F1 Season Reviews

You’re certainly right about the duration of the 1970’s DVDs – many of them are less than 60 minutes. On top of this, some races are missed completely as the films were made by a private company which didn’t attend all of them, plus the commentator sounds like a bored version of Alan Partridge, the music sounds like it was recorded from Rolf Harris’s Stylophone (hey kids, remember them?), and the graphics for race results, titles and so on are very amateur.

Unfortunately, apart from a few very obscure VHS releases, they are all we have, and what is on there is truly wonderful stuff!

Cheers

Re: Older F1 Season Reviews

I have all races from 1980 onwards on dvd. They have been converted from tapes of Grand Prix on BBC. Mostly extended highlights (30+ minutes) some have the full race. Cost me a fortune, got most of them from ebay.
