I'm looking into buying some aftermarket gauges (boost, egt.) since I'll be installing a new turbo soon. My question is what's the difference between manual and electric gauges. Is one more accurate than the other, is one easier to install, etc. I'd like to get all the info I can.

Re: electrical or mechanical gauge
the autometer manual advertises accuaracy within 1psi.. how much more accurate can you get for the money..the electrical guage is not necessary in my opinion..

Re: electrical or mechanical gauge
It really depends on what gauges you are using. I would just go with a mechanical boost/vac gauge, but if you are going to be using oil pres or fuel press. I would recommend electric. You dont want liquids like that running into your car.

Re: electrical or mechanical gauge
I think they are about the same. I mean with both you have to tape into the line and then either run wires or a small tube into the car. Just a little more wiring with electric gauges.

Re: electrical or mechanical gauge
Mechanic for boost guage. This one you usually want as accurate as possible. Those just require a simple line going somewhere from a vac line to the inside to the gauge.
The rest are easier to have electrical. All there will be are sending units. These, as stated above, tap into exsisitng lines, such as the oil pressure or water temp. Then a single wire runs inside the car to the gauge. Then, you just need to run 12v power to the gauges for lights and what not. This you can tap from the cig lighter or any other place. Pretty simple though.
