Help again!
Okay, I went to the junk yard and picked up a new ignition switch/wiring harness and wired it all up, put my dash back together, and when I try to start the car, my battery is pretty much dead. So I get my Jeep and try and jump-start it, but it won't turn over, and it's making some high pitch whine... I'm thinking my starter went out, but I need to know how to check if it's bad or not.
Also, the ignition switch I got was from an 89 Civic Si, and it looked exactly the same as mine (I've got a 90 Si). And I wired it up without any problems, mostly plug and play, except where my alarm system is wired into it. So, I'm pretty sure that the ignition problem is solved and now it's something else.... Please, any ideas, or how to check my starter? I've been without my car for over a week now

Is your alarm designed to "disable" your car if it has been "tripped"?
You might need to disconnect your alarm. If your battery is really dead, you may need to let the Jeep run for a few minutes at fast idle before attempting to crank your car. Also, make sure that the jumper cables are making a GOOD contact. I don't know peoples abilities, so I just start with the basics. Hope this helps!!! |

The alarm is set for to disable the car, but it was not armed at the time. However, when I was installing the new ignition harness, the alarm kept arming itself, and I kept having to disarm it with the remote, and like 30 seconds later it would arm itself again... It stopped doing that after a while though... How would I go about disconnecting the alarm? Should I just unhook the power and ground wires to the main control-box?

AF's server is gettin slow as hell!

I am not that familiar with alarm systems.
But disconnecting power to the alarm might be a good start. However, most alarms are designed to "disable" the car if someone tampers with "anything". You may have to contact the alarm mfg. Hope this helps!!! |

No problem!!!
That's what I like about this Forum. The more people that look at a problem, the better chance you have of someone thinking of something that you may have overlooked. |
