amd laptop without vista

you could buy a new one and remove vista and install XP. only problem with that is the cost of buying XP.

Yeah...im glad im not in the market for a computer. Id hate to get Vista right now. Heck, if I was at Best Buy or something I'd demend XP or I'm going elsewhere.

Well there's the alternative, I bought a HP Pavilion late last year which had XP Professional and thanks to some obscure Australian tax arrangement paid for it out of my pre-tax dollars, the company claimed back the sales tax and then charged me the price less sales tax out of my paycheck before income taxes (which meant the thing cost about 40% less than if I'd paid out of after tax paychek.)

It also came with an upgrade to Vista for no charge and apparently it's 'Vista Capable' although I figure another GB of Ram wil need to be dropped into the chassis first.

I've ordered the Vista CDs which I'll put away somewhere and once the propeller heads in our IT department think that the bugs are sorted I'll get them to image everything onto a server - do an install (and inevitable Service Packs), reinstall all my stuff and see if the thing is a bag of @#$ or not. If so, then it can be restored back to pre-install... (well may as well get them to work on it rather than me sweat over whether I can reinstall the stuff on it...)

it's all the same thing over again.

when XP came out, it was full of bugs because of Microsoft's crap beta testing. it was riddled with problems, so we whined, bitched and said that windows 2000 or whatever was the thing to stick with.

now we're all used to XP working with only the two thousand five hundred problems left, so we don't complain so much. in time, Vista will be sorted, we'll all rejoice and revell in the glory of Vista without too many problems. when the time comes for Microsofties to make yet another operating system, we'll whine and bitch and say Vista is superior for the time being, until the problems are solved.

for those of you who can't be bothered to read all the crap i just typed:

we all whine and bitch about new operating systems, then we get over it and bitch when the next one arrives.

if you're buying new, can't you just ask the vendor to install XP?
If they're a proper store, it shouldn't be the hardest thing to do.

Places I've been looking at in the UK are still giving me the option of either xp pro, media or vista (any).

I have talked with people directly from gateway and hp/compaq, they said they will no longer do it. I also talked with people at best buy, circuit city, and other larger retailers and they have gotten rid of all their stock with xp and are pushing strictly vista. Everyone that I have talked to that has gotten vista has dropped it and gone back to xp because of all the problems. Nothing is working even remotely properly. I had a copy of xp pro corp ed, but my kids destroyed it. I am just trying not to have to buy another copy.

when i replace my computer i'm just going to get Vista and live with the problems and the updates. it's life.

if you had a legit copy of windows before, can't you just install a er.... slightly dodgy copy and use the legit auth. code from before?

Vista just does so much dodgy shit right from the get-go that XP never did.

Only reason I'm running Vista on my laptop is because I can't afford to buy another copy of XP and I can't find my Linux CD.

That would have worked fine if my kids wouldn't have destroyed the disk.
