Hi, I am new to AF as of today and I just wanted to know if there is any point to the insulation on my hood. I can figure out enough to know that it makes my engine quieter but is there any other purpose? Like protection from anything specific. And if I take it off will it make my Bird louder? Please give me your opinions.

Hi, Welcome to AFThe under-hood insulator is to suppress engine fire. It also protectes the hood paint from any excessive heat. Have you removed your air silencer yet? |

Re: Hood Insulation Purpose.
If by air silencer you mean that clunky ol air filter box the car came with, Yes I have put the K&N Filtercharger kit in it. I have done alot more to my car also.

Re: Hood Insulation Purpose.
I don't think you'll notice any more or less noise from the engine compartment without it. You might save a little weight by removing it, and you're not losing any real fire protection by removing it. Only downside would be possible discoloring of the paint on the hood.
