Exclamation Alarm triggered, no radio, HELP!!!

Hey everyone! this is me! <---------- I have a 1996 lincoln town car (signature series) and about a year ago had to remove the horn fuse beacause it would all of a sudden blow for no reason, constantly. About 2 mos ago the radio quit working until you turned the car off and only until you open a door. It stays in 'Phone' Mode. Searching most of the threads, I couldnt find this exact problem, although it may be something to do with the alarm system. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks All!

Re: Alarm triggered, no radio, HELP!!!

Ignition on, then off, then door open = radio shut off. The exit system runs a 10 minute timer after the ignition is shut off, this holds the accessories on till the timer runs out, or a door is opened, whichever comes first.

The hood switch can't be simply unplugged, that would tell the system that the hood is always open... I think I'll have to check that one, it's been awhile.

Since you aren't using the phone anyway, try disconnecting it at the base of the armrest.

Re: Alarm triggered, no radio, HELP!!!

Thanks for the input steve, unfortunately none of this has worked so far. I also tried tracing the phone wires at several points in order to find them on the back of the stereo so that I might be able to disconnect it altogether, but this also has not worked. If only I could find a schematic of the phone system. My haynes sevice manual has nothing on the alarm sys or radio and I considered an aftermarket radio but the 10 disc player may not be compatible. I don't know, there has to be a way. Could it be the deck itself? I am ready to be like the little smiley i put on my first message! Thanks again!

All wires go into the trunk, that's why you're not having any luck tracing them forward. The RCU (radio control unit) and the Phone Box are both in the trunk, passenger side, next to the spare tire. The other one that looks similar but mounted on the drivers side of the spare tire is the JBL amplifier.

I can send you the FSM on CD if you'd like a copy. All the wire diagrams and troubleshooting guides are in there.

PM me if you're interested.
