security light flashing
When I try to start my 92 Buick Lesabre the security light is flashing and won't start.
I purchase the vehicle from one of those buy here pay here and they has what is called a "pass over" on so if you don't make your payment then car won't start... I called the place that I bought vehicle from and the reassured me that the "pass over" has nothing to do with the car not starting. I'm not sure. I looked in the owner's manuel and they say take to dealer, I would like to try and fix it. I have tried a different key and that not it. We hare tried rubbing with sand paper that little metal piece on the key thought maybe it wasn't making connection. My son said he was sitting in vehicle listening to radio with the key turned back, I went in and tried to start but the car would not start. I'm not sure really need some ideas so I can get to work on Monday???? Any ideas???? I really need some suggestions!!!! HELP!!!!! PLEASE!!! THANK YOU!!!!!! Re: Help!!! Security Light Flashing
Did you try both keys & cleaning the contacts on the keys and lock cylinder?
You can get some resistors at Radio Shack and bypass the security system. Measure the resistance of the pellet in the keys & purchase a resistor or combination of resistors to equal the same resistance. Now you need to find the 2 wires coming down the steering column from the lock cylinder. They will be 2 fine wires inside a plastic sleeve. Cut the wires and connect the resistors to the ends coming from the dash. I'll add a link in a minute with some more info. Here's the link. http://www.12vp.com/info_resistors.htm |

Re: Help!!! Security Light Flashing
You might try going to the car and trying to start it and leaving the key in run for abut 15 min..
and see if it will crank start from that point. Be sure to not turn it off and try to start again. .. Just hopeful here. Good Luck

Re: Help!!! Security Light Flashing
The security system is locking you out. The first answer to your post is correct, you need to either replace the VATS lock & key or bypass it. However, if it just started happening, it may be intermitant for a while.
The system is designed to lock out anyone for a 4 minute wait cycle. As soon as you turn the key to 'start' you begin the cycle once again. I suggest leaving the car alone for 5 minutes, then trying it again. Between each time you try it, you may want to move the tilt steering to another position. Good luck Link removed by Moderator Last edited by BNaylor; 03-11-2007 at 04:05 PM. |

Re: Help!!! Security Light Flashing
My '92 LeSabre does the same thing.
I turn the key to "run", and the orange SECURITY light comes on. After 3 minutes the light will go out. At this point turn the key back to "off" and try to start it again. I've found that sometimes I have to wait another 3-minute cycle. So, once the light goes out, wait a few seconds before trying again. I try to give it an additional 30-60 seconds, just to be safe. So, give it some time. Dugan50's suggestion of 5 minutes ain't a bad idea! This should hold you over until you're able to replace the key-switch. |
