Re: 300

saw it on friday, awesome movie but it reminded me why i never see movies on opening day. i loved it, everything about it was great, except that the theatre i was at cut off in the last 3 minutes during the intense speach, then after 10-15 minutes we got to see the last 3 minutes of the movie lol.

Re: 300

Saw it and didn't love it sadly. I know the story of Thermopalye (or however its spelled) and it stayed fairly close to it, but the problem with that story is that not much happened but one solid stand against the entire Persian army. Excellent act 2/3 for a movie, but not really a 3 act story arc you need to make a movie. The visuals stand on their own merit and the action sequences were of course teh shizz, but as an entire movie package, the storyline fell short imo.

Still a great job by Frank Miller on a benchmark in filmaking, but Sin City was way ahead of 300 as far as storyline is concerned. I'm sure the graphic novel does well by it though

I agree that there wasn't much of a 'story line' behind it. But if you know your history, you don't need much a story to appreciate the movie. It took an single event in the timeline of history, and exploded it to the point where people can actually admire what the Spartans did and what happened.

Re: 300

IMO this movie lived up to the hype surrounding it. Once I got out of the theatre i wanted three things 1) A spear 2) a shield 3) abs like them. somethings were a little wack, like that dude with saws for arms, or the goat thing. but those aside, i really enjoyed it.

Re: 300

Yeah, the movie was based off a comic, and that's why there were some of those weird things in there. Regardless, still badass.

That is actually one thing that I really liked about the movie. See the movie wasnt a historical description of the events that took place. Instead it was more of the story being told by the guy with one eye (cant remember his name). You have to imagine it through the eyes of someone listening to the story. For example if I were telling a great epic story and I mentioned a horribly disfigured human you might imagine something like the creature in the movie....when in fact the person was only as horrid as janet reno.....which may be more horrible but thats another topic all together.

Re: 300

i agree that there wasn't a whole lot happening in terms of storyline, but i didn't really go in expecting a story to rival lord of the rings or any other movie. I went in to that movie expecting to see a bigass war between millions of persians against a few hundred spartans, maybe a bit of story to go with it, but the movie performed to my expectation and exceeded it in many ways. i was expecting spectacular fight scenes, lots of blood, maybe some dismemberment or beheadings thrown in, and i got that... and more.
