97 eclipse turns over but wont start!

Hi there all i hope im in the right place i just joined up but anyway im thinking about trading my Trans Am for a 97 eclipse rs that has the 420a engine and it is fully customized under the hood and outside but he bought the car on e-bay and when it got to his house he canot get it to start her is the list of mods it has

allthis stuff is installed and the car turns over and acts like it wants to start but wont just wanted to know if it would be hard to track down the problem because i am seriously thinking about tradeing him any thing will help thanks

Has he ever actually had it run since he has built it? If not then I would be very leery of this as there could be some major problem with it...

no he bought it from a guy in flordia off ebay and we live in alaska so he could not see it in person befor he bought it but the guy said it ran fine down there but after it was shipped up here he tried to start it and it turns over but does not start he said a shop said it might need a bigger fuel pump or some kinda program but i dont trust what the shop said cause of there credibility so im seeking assistance the car is in showroom condition in and out but dosent start i just need info on what i can check out on it or things that i can do to get it to run i dont know alot about eclipse's but i know enough about engines to understand what your talking about so any info on oh and it was an 97 rs auto converted to manual tranny thats all i know till i go look at the car and see for my self i got pics but dosent help with sounds and such ..lol

Well, I would run through all the basic things to check first. Make sure its getting fuel into the cylinders, check spark, timing, etc...

Haha...Alaska is a bad spot for an Eclipse, I should know XD

Anywho, one of the bigger problems might not be the ecu con't compensate fuel through fuel mapping but could be something other like no fuel at all, no spark at all, fried brain , no compression, ..a multitude of things or maybe just something simple like vacuum. start with the basics like 'He' says and go from there.

ok it has spark and is definetly getting fuel i havent been able to check the timming though it will start when the car is warm in the garage but is running verry rich and when you give it gas it boggs down and then reves up but is verry unstable it has a stock ecu ,my question is can i put a ecu out of a turbo model eclipse in it ? because im pretty sure the ecu is bad and the car is just getting way to much fuel the exaust is black and sooty . some advice on this would be greatly apreatiated.

No you cannot. The 4g63 ECU will NOT match up with it. You list the Hahn fuel mapper. You may have to play with that to get it right.

If you think the ECU is bad, replace it then. But only with a 420a ECU.

ok will look at the fuel maper and tinker a bit with it see if that helps out im just new to the turbo engine and as much mods as this car has just makes it that much more confusing but im reaserching as much as i can so i know every thing i do will be corect also with all that i listed the stock ecu should work fine right ? I mean if all the other stuff is in proper order

Yeah, the ECU swap ain't gonna happen unless its for another 420a... Sounds like the fuel map is just all jacked up and needs fixed... After re-reading this, why would you trade a Trans Am for an Eclipse RS?? Or is the Trans Am like my bird and has seen better days? lol

i'd check timing you can get it on number 1 by turning it over and see if it's on number 1 piston come up and see if it is on number 1 by harmonic balenser...good luck....

Dont go messing with the fuel maps unless you know what you're doing. Seems like it may be either way to rich or lean at idle. Just lean it out a little and see what happens. I can't emphasize this enough... A LITTLE!! Small changes in fuel maps.
