Rebuilding a '96 EX

OK I found several things already with the car. I found the NGK plugs, Injen Intake ram air, a rebuilt set of heads and exhaust set up I want. Some other things I'm not sure of is the piston rings. I'm uncertain as the of the motor in the car to get the right rings. I also would like to know if any one has any suggestions for ignition system set up, fuel filter, adjustible coil overs and anti-sway bars.

Re: Rebuilding a '96 EX

Your engine is the d16y8. So the pistons and rings will either be listed as that or as their casting code; P2P. And if it matters they are 75mm bore. For ignition, just go with the stock one or basic stock replacement ones. Buying aftermarket performances ones (like MSD products) are useless for a relatively stock engine. They're only worth it for very high hp engines. And also the fuel filter as well. No need to replace the fuel filter with anything other than OEM or an OEM replacement from a local auto parts store. I don't know enough about coilovers to recommend any. But for sway bars (at least for the rear), you should look into getting an A-Spec Racing reinforcement kit. This will help make everything solid for the sway bar and not tear out your subframe like the Beaks kit will. From there you can either use quite a few sway bars with it; ITR, Blox Racing, just to name a few. Just don't go to big, cause you shouldn't need to and it may just cause problems.

Re: Rebuilding a '96 EX

I was hoping you'd response. The car's a 97 btw. Sorry about the typo. I do believe the motor's are the same. I squashed the idea of getting a prior generation hatchback Si and putting the VX tranny in it for the taller gears. Near impossible to find.

So I'm keeping the EX coupe instead. Since I already have the platform and it's cheaper to keep the same car. I'm mainly looking to boost my mileage without cutting any ponies or torque. I'd be happy being able to broaden the power band even just a little. From what I've found .5" larger exhaust with a better intake system would make a difference.
