Prizm multifunction switch mishap

I have a 98' Chevy Prizm, has about 130,000 miles.A couple of weeks ago i decided to drive the car, when i got a few miles away from my residence,i noticed the ABS,and brake light came on,plus the directional light was flicking rapidly.I turned on the heat, and the car stalled on me.I brought it back home.Later on went to start it again and it wouldn't turn over.I tryed jump starting it,charging the battery, checked the alternator belt, checked fuses-and nothing helped.I had the car towed to a local mechanic.
He put in a "new" multifunction switch along with a toggle switch independently located/mounted on the dash near glove compartment.
He said that before i started the ignition i would have to turn the toggle switch on,and if i turn the car off-the toggle switch would have to be turned off as well or it would drain my battery.
So here is the problem. Now at night when i use the headlights, they do not want to turn off, reguardless if the switch is turned off or if the key/ignition is turned off.So now i have to pop the hood everytime and remove/disconnect the terminal cables from the battery in order to get the headlights to turn off.Which is really a pain in the ass. Also the dashboard lights do not turn on unless the headlights are on,where as before they would automatically light up at nightime. So does anyone know off hand what could be causing all this? And if so,how could i remedy the problem? Any advice would greatly be appreciated. send to: [email protected]
Thank You,
Johnnie
