I have been asked to put up my formula. So here we go, dont hammer me too bad . Not much done to it at all. New Yokohama's, Pearl White paint job (@6months ago) and sound system. Now that the cheap stuff is out of the way now I need to do performance. Starting with low cost ones what you you guys suggest?

A cold air intake and caback exhaust is a good place to start.

cold air intake should be your first mod. It's relatively cheap and you see a nice little jump in hp.

Is that the cold air incuction kit that "drops" in where the current filter is? I have looked at that mod and it seems to be sort of easy to install.

What about a larger intake valve with an air sensor upgrade? I have seen these dual intake that also state easy install. I will look it up and post a site that I seen them on.

a "catback" is used to refer to an exhaust system upgrade from the catalytic converter back. most catback system have a larger size pipe than stock and a performance muffler to improve performance and sound. you have a good amount of choices in systems for 4th gen f-bodies. they range in price from about $300 up to $800. most give a decent gain in power depending on the car. one of the best systems is one from magnaflow and will run about $400. a cold air intake by moroso is one of the cheapest at $160. in adition to the cold air intake, 2 cheap upgrades to go with that would be a throttle body air foil (about $60) that smooths out airflow into the TB and a 1LE intake elbow (about $40 on ebay) that does not use the factory resonating chaimber.

A cat-back is basicly replacing the exhaust from the catalytic converters back to the muffler. When you do a cat-back you usually use 3in pipe and get a high flow muffler. A lot of people will say flowmaster but after reading on the forums here and now personal experience the flowmaster are more restrictive than others. I got turned on to magnaflow and love them. The sound is not as loud but when you get on it it sounds mean.

Yeah, the cold air intake kits take the place of the stock intake air box. The only difference is that the filter is connected from under the car to suck up colder air away from the engine compartment.

And never heard of a 'larger intake valve and air sensor upgrade'. The only way to get a larger valve, is to pull the heads and have port work done and valve work done.

My ignorance on the "intake valve". I know know it to be called throttle body

yes you can upgrade to a TB with larger openings. stock is 48mm i think and aftermarket TB's are 52mm and 58mm and will cost around $200-$250.

Cool, now the really dumb question is it worth it? Do you have to increase the manifold intake as well? And finally what about a mass air flow sensor?

if you went with a 58mm TB i believe you would have to do some porting of the TB opening. a 52 mm would be a nice upgrade. summit racing sells them for $250 but they can be found cheaper. not sure what the gains are though. as for the MAF, you could upgrade to a granatelli MAF sensor but in my opinion, its not worth the cost for minimal gains.

Im sorry to go against what others had said but.....I am a automotive technology student and what I have learned is Yes a cold air intake will work to give you more air. The problem comes when you have to clean it. You will wash it all out and let it dry for 2 days, some will take air pressure to it, do not do that, it damages it. Then after it dries for a few days you will want to spray the expensive oil on it so that it actually does its job. Now you will most likely spray to much on it and it will actually restrict more air then the stock filter. All in all it is worth it at the begining, but you have to be carfull, better just to replace your stock filter often.

I would start with upgrading the CPU you can change how much fuel you put in, shit timing and so on. The plus is it will give you more horse power then a new cold intake, better for your engine, and you can set it back to stock for resale
