ok i have just put a new (used) trany in my manual 95 escort and i cant get the speedometer gear assembly out to add the trany fluid. ive got teh car at my highschool cause its the only place i can work on it and ive pretty much beatan the flat edge to **** and just how is it that its suppost to just slide out?

The speedometer drive gear is mounted on the differential case. It is turned by the differential gear. A tab on the speedometer drive gear and a matching slot in the differential case prevent the speedometer drive gear from spinning on the differential case. The gear is cut at an angle and the speed sensor must be wiggled as it is being pulled up. However, the slot that prevents the speedometer drive gear from spinning on the case will limit how much it can be moved. There is another way to this problem. Instead of wiggling the speed sensor, move the differential gear it is mated to. Jack up the left or right wheel. Makes no difference. Put the transmission into neutral and as someone is pullling straight up on the speed sensor have someone rock the front wheel back and forth turning the differential gear. The speed sensor should come out of the angled gear as the differential gear is rocked back and forth. If the assembly has been damaged beyond repair, just drill a hole in the top of it, insert a sheet metal screw and use a slide hammer to get it out. Moving the differential gear has worked for me in the past.

i guess i'l have to try that next time. cause today my teacher took an airhammer and hit it, than it started to spin but i he craked the differential case around the sensor so now i have another one being deliver ed that day i get back to school which is in a week
