Shifting out of park auto

I have a 1995 pickup and am having trouble moving the transmission selector out of park. It takes anyware from 1to 2 minutes of moving the lever in all different directions befor I can get it to move. What is causing this, linkage to the tramsmission, the shifter itself?????

Re: Shifting out of park auto

If the shifter is between the seats, the brake has to be pushed for the shifter to come out of park.
