Brake Problem

I have a 2000LS, my rear pass side brake calliper is leaking not from the piston or the front seals, it seems like it is leaking from the back of the calliper were the parking brake assembly is connected. whats going on can I replace the seals or do I have to replace the calliper itself.

Please shed some light?

Are you reasonably certain that the leak is not from the bleeder screw, and wicking down the caliper and dripping from underneath? Have you pulled the caliper and inspected it?

If it is leaking from the caliper, the best bet would probably be to install a rebuilt caliper rather than trying to rebuild it yourself.

I've check the bleeder screw is bone dry, the whole front assembly is and no leaks from the flex hose either

How bad is it leaking? Do you have a soft pedal and a system that is loosing fluid, ie: are you sure it is leaking brake fluid? Any chance you can post a photo or two?

I'm sure that it is brake fluid,I normally fill the system with fluid every two to three days, yes the pedal is soft. It is normally wet underneath the rear pass. tire.

Okay, probably the best bet is to closely inspect the rubber flexible brake hose, and if it looks fine, purchase and install a re-built brake caliper. Then, of course, you'll need to bleed the brake system.

The reason I suggest going with a replacement caliper is because there is a chance the leak is due to a crack in the caliper housing rather than just a faulty seal. Also, the cost of a rebuild kit, if you can find it, probably nearly exceeds the cost of a rebuilt caliper assembly.

The service manual does not show an exploded view of the rear caliper to see what all would be involved in rebuilding it, but does mention that you cannot hone the piston bore.
