a couple of problemss...

Well my i bought this car (92 Talon TSi AWD) from the original owner last march of 06 with 65,xxx miles. I put roughly 5,000 miles from march-september.

Problem 1) I had the front brakes done over the summer (pads and rotors) and when i got the car back i had an ABS light on and the ABS module/pump/motor/thingamajig occassionally would continue to run when the car was shut off essentially killing the battery. So i asked my mechanic and he said he had nothing to do with it and he had tried to retrieve the code but his diagnostic tool wouldn't communicate to my ABS computer. so in the mean time my ABS is unplugged and now i am without ABS..

Problem 2) I had went away to college this September and my car was left in my garage. When i came home for breaks, visits etc. i started my car and the coolant light was on and the resevoir was nearly empty.. there were no stains anywhere in my driveway.. or in my garage and someone would of notices a neon green foreign substance in my driveway to tell me.. is it possible i am burning it? All gaskets/belts are original.

any ideas or solutions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: a couple of problemss...

It is very possible that you are burning coolant. Does you have any white smoke when you get on it? If so then you are burning coolant.

Re: a couple of problemss...

yeh dude, if you got white smoke you are probally burning coolant, but if it overheats, and if you have excessive water coming out of the muffler then it could be your headgasket.

o, this isnt really relavent but if your riding on original belt you might wanna change those!

Re: a couple of problemss...

yeah there is white/grey smoke at idle but not an excessive amount but it is there.. and yeah the belts will be changed this summer.. is the Mitsubishi OEM the best bet for the timing belt or should i just get the local auto parts (federated/castle) or a performance one? should i replace the head gasket just out of spite as well?

Yeah OEM timing belt would be the best way to go. You dont want to just get up and replace a head gasket if that isnt the problem because that is quite a bit of work that could probably be avoided if that is not the problem.

Re: a couple of problemss...

i'd figure'd the ABS would be a headache considering it wouldnt talk to the snap-on diagnostic scanner, i'll just take out the light in the cluster and forget about it.. thanks for the help
