Swap Help

OK so here's the dumbest thing i've done. I was driving my '86 4x4 to work one day and did not know I had a coolant leak. Since the temp gauge failed earlier that week I didn't know I had a problem until it was too late. I now have a 4x4 brick.

I've only had the truck about a year and this is the only problem I've really had. I know the previous owner had to put a head on it about a year before I bought it from him.

I love my truck and am having a hard time finding a 22re to go back in it. Since I need a new motor anyway I was wondering what would fit and still keep the 4 wheel drive. Can anyone give me a list and/or where I could find a good motor in the NC area? I used the search and came up with some V8 options but I am not so certian about polluting my 'yota with domestic power.

Re: Swap Help

Since they also came with the 3.0 V6, that's an option (but not really the best).
Old Buick 3.8, and Chevy 4.3 V6's are also popular swaps.
The simplest would be another 22RE though.
Start checking the 4sale forums of Toyota BBS like this. It's pretty common to find one 4sale.

Re: Swap Help

Call some local machine shops to see what it would cost to have yours rebuilt.
Try craig's list to see if you can find a truck that ran good but was totaled in a wreck.
Local wrecking yards maybe a good source.

Re: Swap Help

And remember a 22RE from a 2WD truck will work too.
