04 missfire
just over a month ago i purchased a 04 mustang with the 3800, it now has 31k on it and i am getting random missfires, though i am getting no hard faults ie no check engine lights or hard codes to read. it still being under factory warranty i regretably let the dealership look over my baby for 4 days only to find in the computers history that it is in fact as i stated to them when i gave it to them misfiring on the 3rd cylinder. it does not do it under and certain conditions other than when it is idling at a light or stop sign. this means there has been no pattern of the engine being cold or anything of that sort. any suggestions???

Re: 04 missfire
yes when i am at a stop light at random times it starts misfiring. the rpm's drop from around 700 to 300 and flux up and down and the whole car shakes up badly while making noises that make me cringe. now the dealership has acknoledged in the computers history they have found that it is in fact misfiring on the third cylinder after they had my baby for 4 days and could not duplicate complaint. so now that it keeps doing it i requested a new engine as they could not fix the problem and the factory warranty was about to run out, which was declined as "we cannot find anything wrong with the engine to send it back for." they claim and im about ready to start working on it myself, but they claim plugs and wires are fine, injectors are fine.... so im at a loss other than to check them myself. a friend of mine who used to specialize in mustangs suggested checking the idle air controller, which i have not done yet. suggestions are still more than welcome. thanks for your help.

Re: 04 missfire
Well frankly thats bullshit, you need to tell them that "look, you guys found that is has DTC's in the pcm and it still has problem, yall need to find it and fix it or replace the motor or everyones getting a bad survey!" (Hence survey is what every single ford service writer gets paid on.) But in all seriousness they need to fix it. Its under warrenty, and your not happy. BTW just curious is there a lemon law in your state?

Re: 04 missfire
I gotta agree with Fordtrucksonly.
Awhile ago, a friend heard a skip in his new Ford truck engine. Ford techs didn't hear it.......at first. Then after much deliberation, they got him a new engine. It'll probably be like pulling teeth, but you just may have a case for it. Especially since the car is hardly broke in yet. If it were me then I'd say "I bought a new car and I want a new running car...period". Their philosophy is supposed to be "the customer is always right"! But good luck anyway! |

Re: 04 missfire
Never mind the new engine, when the car turns vintage the numbers wont match. Get them to replace the whole car.
